Description
Summary:As a Muslim, the purpose of life is to worship Allah to received His grace, instead of seeking as much worldly pleasure as possible. However, in reality this goal has not been fully practiced in the author's life, even the author feels more inclined to purely mundane matters. Therefore, the author tried to study the nature of the world, humans, and human relations to the world where The Qur'an and Hadith have mentioned and warned. The results of the learning process are then contemplated and transformed into symbolic artwork by the intaglio technique. The author displayed pairs of symbol in the works, hands and feet which symbolize human deeds and efforts, and clouds that represent the world with all the beauty and pleasures, but in fact ephemeral and deceiving. Through an intense and continuous process of work, followed by self-reflection, the author discover similarities between etching and human deeds records, that everything we do is being written and will be held accountable, and sometimes we cannot know what have been marked for sure before being printed. Nor can we know the results of our deeds records with certainty before we die. Etching is a technique that bound to rules and require a knowledge. Knowledge is not enough just to be known, but also to be carry out with devotion. Therefore, living in this world, we must know the essence of life. Trying as much as possible to understand the rules and mend our mistakes continuously, like working on an etching plate.
