Summary:In the learning process, students communicate with lecturers. Intense communication was established from the concept of the idea to the result. However, conveying ideas related to spatial space is a complicated matter, this is related to ideas that are abstract in nature. The language barrier is believed to be the basic problem of verbal language having limitations. This is where the existence of the image becomes important. The main objective of this study is to find out whether online image reference assistance has a role in assisting in the effectiveness of distance learning communication between students and teachers. To answer this question, a few students majoring in interior design were asked to compile a design concept regarding an interior problem by collecting reference images arranged per interior element (pinterest moodboard). As a control, other students were also asked to develop the concept using the conventional sketch method. This concept is then tested in guidance activities between students and lecturers online using Google Meet. 36 interior design students from several universities in Indonesia voluntarily participated in this research. Students are tested by assessing 3 aspects, namely, the level of interpersonal communication, learning motivation, and mastery of learning media. The results of the study show the group that uses pinterest online references. turns out to have better interpersonal communication results, but not directly proportional to motivational factors. Because there was no significant difference, the group with online pinterest references also excelled in media mastery
