Description
Summary:Background: Vinyasa yoga has been proven to have the metabolic equivalent (MET) of 4.0 and is comparable to brisk walking. As walking itself has been widely known as a form of physical activity with multiple benefits for fitness, this study aims to compare the physiological characteristics resulted from vinyasa yoga and walking. Method: This study uses observational study with descriptive quantitative method. Measured variables used in this study are flexibility, static balance, vital lung capacity, and body composition. Samples included are females aged 25 years old and up who have been practicing vinyasa yoga (n=11) or walking (n=10) as their regular exercise. Results: Vinyasa yoga group bears significant flexibility characteristic in comparison to walking group. Conclusion: Vinyasa yoga is proven to be a more reliable exercise to improve flexibility compared to walking. In terms of static balance and body composition, no significant differences found between vinyasa yoga and walking. Although not statistically different, vinyasa yoga group and walking group’s FEV1 are classified into different ranges.
