EXPLORATION THE UTILIZATION OF SHELLS WASTE AS GLAZES IN CERAMIC TABLEWARE PRODUCT

Shells are one of Indonesia's biological diversity and types of food which are abundant. However, the remaining consumption results do not go through a proper process so that they pile up to waste which, in fact, contains calcium carbonate which can be used as an alternative material. Altern...

However, the remaining consumption results do not go through a proper process so that they pile up to waste which, in fact, contains calcium carbonate which can be used as an alternative material. Alternative materials are innovations that are blooming in the 21st century due to environmental issues. Calcium oxide obtained through the heating process of calcium carbonate in the content of shells, has the potential to be an alternative glaze material. Craft as material processing is also the incentive for this research. By doing exploration in addition of shells to the glaze, data on various effects and characteristics were obtained. The data was developed to be applied to ceramic craft products in the form of tableware. The Ichiju-Sansai concept underlies the design due to exploration which tends to lead to the characteristics of Japanese ceramics. Research is in line with efforts to support more environmentally friendly ceramic practices text
