Summary: | Denim fabric is one of the most popular fabrics in the world. People love this
fabric because of its casual, strong, and durable characteristics. In 2009, there
were 513 denim factories around the world (Limited, 2009). In Indonesia, there
are 13 official denim factories that are registered on the ministry of industry
website. There are so many more small factories and even home-scale factories
that are not registered. Nonetheless, the denim production process requires a lot of
water usages, energies, and chemicals (especially the dyeing process).
Furthermore, there are factory waste that can be categorized into: production
waste such as denim scraps, unsold denim stocks, and post-consumer denim
waste. Denim factories in West Java normally discard or sell the denim scraps for
other applications like doll fillings, insect repellent material, gips material, and
other applications. It is just so wasteful to discard this popular strong and durable
fabric that the production causes a lot of bad environmental impacts. These denim
scraps wastes could be put to a better use. Therefore, there is a need of a products
that utilize these denim scraps wastes with a better value |
