Description
Summary:Process management is a systematic effort to manage process that yields positive impact on performance, but it is contingent on the characteristics of the process. In recent years, business process management research and practice approaches have increasingly geared towards process-driven operational excellence. One of them is process analysis through process mining techniques. This study explores the characteristics of business processes by analyzing historical data while developing a method of analysis that utilizes process mining techniques. This method is designed as an extension of the initiation and diagnosis stages within a operational process improvement framework; and is aimed to investigate the variability, interdependence, and differentiation characteristics of processes based on event logs extracted from information systems. We tested the developed method against actual ERP data of a manufacturing company in Indonesia. The findings from this method serve as an instrument to differentiate processes within an organization, help prioritize improvement initiatives, and plan for the next stages of a process improvement project.
