Summary:Tea is a significant export commodity in Indonesia. However, in the last five years, the export value trend is declining due to Indonesian tea low competitiveness. Efforts to increase the competitiveness of Indonesian tea products can be carried out by developing a value added-based management strategy, which is known as Total Quality Management, in tea industry. TQM implementation was analysed by descriptive qualitative. The performance of TQM implementation in the organisation can be evaluated using Quality Management Maturity. Continuous improvement of TQM implementation is carried out by developing strategies using gap analysis and pairwise comparison. This study aims to analyse the implementation of TQM in the Indonesian tea processing leading company, PTPN VIII Ciater, and determine strategies to improve the performance of TQM implementation. The TQM elements analysed in this study are leadership, customer focus, process management, employees, information and analysis, and strategic planning. According to the study findings, PTPN VIII Ciater has implemented all TQM elements. QMM level at PTPN VIII Ciater for TQM implementation is 3.28. Strategy recommendations to improve TQM implementation in the short-term are establishing process management that aligned with PTPN VIII Ciater strategy and follow the Standars Operational Procedure, meanwhile long-term strategy is manage the company’s process proactively.
