The analysis method using High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) with a silica-amine column (Si-NH2) is an effective method for analyzing sugar because it produces good separation results. Commercial Si-NH2 columns are generally modified by aminopropylsilane which has one amine functional group. In this research, Si-NH2 column has been made with 3-APTES precursor which is has one amine functional group and with N-[3- (Trimethoxysilyl)propyl]-ethylenediamine (N-TMSPen) precursor which has 2 amine functional groups. Based on FTIR data, silica particles were successfully modified by amines using the first method in the presence of N-H vibration at 3351 cm-1 for silica-propylamine and 3246 cm-1 for silica-propylethylenediamine. Then, silica particles were also successfully modified by amines using the second method with slightly different results, there are two N- H vibrations at 3337 cm-1 and 1593 cm-1, also C-H vibration at 2956 cm-1 for silica- propylamine. As for silica-propylethylenediamine, there are two N-H vibrations at 3250 cm-1 and 1590 c cm-1, also C-H vibration at 2957 cm-1. The performance of the two Si-NH2 columns was compared for separation of glucose, fructose, and sucrose. The result of sugar separation by Si-NH2 column using the first method was not able to separate the sugar mixture like the commercial Si-NH2 column, while the Si-NH2 column using the first method was able to retain the sugar mixture but the peaks were not separated properly. text
