SECONDARY METABOLITES OF LINDERA BIBRACTEATA BI. ( LAURACEAE)

Lauraceae is a family of plant which consists of 31 genera and 3000 species. About 600 species of this family grow in Indonesia. Eighteen genera of this family, including Lindera, are known to have high alkaloid contents, particularly aporphine type. One of the species of Lindera growing in Indon...

( LAURACEAE) Eko Nugroho, Alfarius Indonesia Theses Lauraceae, Lindera, secondary metabolites INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/72924 Lauraceae is a family of plant which consists of 31 genera and 3000 species. About 600 species of this family grow in Indonesia. Eighteen genera of this family, including Lindera, are known to have high alkaloid contents, particularly aporphine type. One of the species of Lindera growing in Indonesian tropical rainforests is Lindera bibracteata Bl. The secondary metabolites of this species is not well studied. In this research, the isolation of the secondary metabolites of L. bibracteata stem bark and their cytoxicity assay were conducted. By using extraction and various chromatography methods, ten secondary metabolites of L. bibracteata have been isolated. Based on the UV, 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, and mass spectroscopy data, five of them were identified as N-methylnandigerine, nandigerine, launobine, epicatechin, and ????-sitosterol. The IC50 value of N-methylnandigerine and nandigerine against OVCAR-3 (human ovarian carcinoma cell-line 3) cells were 200 ????g/mL and >500 ????g/mL, respectively. Both compounds have low activities compared to taxol (IC50 17 ng/mL). However, it can be suggested that the N-methyl group has an important role to increase the cytotoxicity of aporphine alkaloids against OVCAR-3 cells. text
