ABSTRACT “REVOLVE AROUND ME” RECONSTRUCTION OF MODERN BEAUTY STANDARDS ON INSTAGRAM SOCIAL MEDIA By Tata Hetiandanti NIM: 17016002 (Visual Art Study Program) Nowadays, beauty is something that is very common and wanted by everyone. Along with the development of technology and mass media, to be beautiful, you only need a device, namely a smartphone and a filter feature in it. Social media also plays a role in reconstructing pre-existing ideas and beauty standards. Instagram is an example of one of the existing social media. A social network that is fairly easy to share selfies, can be shared with virtual communities and liked by those who see it. Uploaded selfies determine self-perception from interactions with others. Therefore, in this final project, these experiences and ideas will be brought into a final project. The process of creating a work goes through several stages including examining the theoretical approach of representational art, and studying supporting theories regarding the social environment that can trigger personal actions and tendencies as well as how we see ideal self-perceptions. This project also look for several references of works that are similar to the ideas and visuals to convey. The medium used is mixed media and installations that are made to resemble the shape of a post section on Instagram that can be interacted with.
