The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of compost tea and ascorbic acid and the effectiveness of their combination on the productivity and antioxidant activity of bush common beans ( Ph aseolus vulgaris ). The method used was a group randomized design with treatments P1 (control), P2 (ascorbic acid), P3 (chicken manure compost tea), P4 (maggot residue fertilizer compost tea), P5 (chicken manure compost tea + ascorbic acid) and P6 (maggot r esidue fertilizer compost tea + ascorbic acid). This study concludes that the highest productivity of bean plants ( Phaseolus vulgaris L.) was obtained by P2 treatment at 6.83 ± 0.640 tons/ha/cycle, and the lowest by P6 treatment at 6.27 ± 0.636 tons/ha/cycle. P2 treatment increased productivity by 19.03%; P5 treatment by 9.22%; and P3 by 3.95%, compared to P1, while P4 was 3.95% lower t han P1. The combination of compost tea and ascorbic acid gave an increase in productivity by 5.07% for treatment P5, and by 4.63% for P6, compared to the compost tea treatment without the combination. The highest IC50 value of methanol extract of common be an pods ( Phaseolus vulgaris L.) was given by P2 at 17.46 µg/ml and the lowest by P6 at 31.65 µg/ml. The combination of compost tea and ascorbic acid decreased the IC50 value by 23.12% in treatment P5, while the IC50 value of treatment P6 increased by 32.59 %. The combination of chicken manure compost tea with ascorbic acid effectively increased the antioxidant activity of common bean pods, while maggot residue fertilizer compost tea was better without the combination with ascorbic acid. The IC50 values of P3 and P6 treatments were lower than P1 so they were not good enough to increase the antioxidant activity of common bean pods. text |

The common bean (
Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is a horticultural crop that is classified
as a functional food because it contains nutrients and various bioactive
compounds which are good for health. High production of common beans can be
in line with the improvement of nutrition in the community, so it is necessary to
increase the productivity of these plants. The purpose of this study was to
determine the effect of compost tea and ascorbic acid and the effectiveness of
their combination on the productivity and antioxidant activity of bush common
beans ( Ph aseolus vulgaris ). The method used was a group randomized design
with treatments P1 (control), P2 (ascorbic acid), P3 (chicken manure compost
tea), P4 (maggot residue fertilizer compost tea), P5 (chicken manure compost tea
+ ascorbic acid) and P6 (maggot r esidue fertilizer compost tea + ascorbic acid).
This study concludes that the highest productivity of bean plants ( Phaseolus
vulgaris L.) was obtained by P2 treatment at 6.83 ± 0.640 tons/ha/cycle, and the
lowest by P6 treatment at 6.27 ± 0.636 tons/ha/cycle. P2 treatment increased
productivity by 19.03%; P5 treatment by 9.22%; and P3 by 3.95%, compared to
P1, while P4 was 3.95% lower t han P1. The combination of compost tea and
ascorbic acid gave an increase in productivity by 5.07% for treatment P5, and by
4.63% for P6, compared to the compost tea treatment without the combination.
The highest IC50 value of methanol extract of common be an pods ( Phaseolus
vulgaris L.) was given by P2 at 17.46 µg/ml and the lowest by P6 at 31.65 µg/ml.
The combination of compost tea and ascorbic acid decreased the IC50 value by
23.12% in treatment P5, while the IC50 value of treatment P6 increased by
32.59 %. The combination of chicken manure compost tea with ascorbic acid
effectively increased the antioxidant activity of common bean pods, while maggot
residue fertilizer compost tea was better without the combination with ascorbic
acid. The IC50 values of P3 and P6 treatments were lower than P1 so they were
not good enough to increase the antioxidant activity of common bean pods. |
