Biodiesel have several advantages, e.g efficiency, ability to reduce emission of CO2 gas, nontoxic and biodegradable. Same types of biodiesel have high cloud point that will influence performance of machine. The long alkyl chain of fatty acid component in biodiesel are responsive to this disadvantage properties. Branched fatty acid ester e.g methyl acetyl ricinoleic may decrease cloud point of biodiesel. In this research, methyl acetyl ricinoleic have been successfully synthesized from castor oil. Its result shown that addition of methyl acetyl ricinoleic in biodiesel decreased cloud point of biodiesel. Addition of methyl acetyl ricinoleic with 5 % concentration decreased the cloud point down to 5,5 degrees C. The result shown also that there was linear relationship between addition of methyl acetyl ricinoleic and decreasing of cloud point. text |
