Summary: | The waste management system in the earthquake-affected area of Cianjur,
specifically Cugenang Subdistrict in West Java, is planned to be handled separately for easily
decomposable waste (putrescible), economically valuable inorganic waste, and residual waste.
Economically valuable inorganic waste will be sold to a Waste Bank, residual waste will be
processed at the Pasir Sembung Cianjur landfill, while putrescible waste from the study area
will be entirely processed at the designed putrescible waste management facility. The designed
facility is capable of processing putrescible waste using Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae.
Residual waste from the BSF larvae processing will be further processed using windrow
composting along with leaf/plant waste. The final products of the designed putrescible waste
management facility are wet BSF larvae (fresh maggots) and compost. The produced fresh
maggots will be sold to local poultry and fish farmers. An economic feasibility analysis of the
construction of the putrescible waste management facility in the study area was conducted
using the Net Present Value (NPV) method. The analysis considers the Bank Indonesia's
reference interest rate of 5.75% in 2023. The analysis reveals that the construction of the
facility has a positive NPV of Rp32,316,500 for a design period of 5 years. The total cost
required for the construction of the facility is Rp4,051,939,000, and the operational cost for
the designed facility is Rp965,907,456 per year. The cost required for waste processing is
Rp1,011,390 per ton of waste, and the construction cost is Rp6,111,522 per square meter.
Based on these calculations, the project can achieve the Break-Even Point (BEP) after 0.8
years of operation.
