Description
Summary:In its operation, a cooling circulation system in a Steam and Gas Power Plant (PLTUG) requires a supply of seawater as generator cooling water and produces a by-product in the form of thermal water waste. The purpose of this study is to examine the distribution of thermal water waste in Bontang waters due to the PLTUG using a numerical approach using the HAMburg Shelf Ocean Model (HAMSOM). A numerical model with baroclinic mode was created using initial values from field data in May 2022. The results of the numerical model were then verified using field data on 6th-12th September 2022. In general, positive correlation was obtained between the field data and the model. The RMSE obtained for current was 0.095 m/s, temperature was 0.423 °C, and salinity data was 0.191 psu. The range of thermal water waste can reach 2 kilometers from its source during the receding phase of the full moon with a temperature rise of 1,5°C from inital condition.
