THERMAL DISPERSION FROM THE CIRCULATION OF THE POWER PLANT COOLING SYSTEM IN BONTANG WATERS, EAST KALIMANTAN

In its operation, a cooling circulation system in a Steam and Gas Power Plant (PLTUG) requires a supply of seawater as generator cooling water and produces a by-product in the form of thermal water waste. The purpose of this study is to examine the distribution of thermal water waste in Bontang wate...

The purpose of this study is to examine the distribution of thermal water waste in Bontang waters due to the PLTUG using a numerical approach using the HAMburg Shelf Ocean Model (HAMSOM). A numerical model with baroclinic mode was created using initial values from field data in May 2022. The results of the numerical model were then verified using field data on 6th-12th September 2022. In general, positive correlation was obtained between the field data and the model. The RMSE obtained for current was 0.095 m/s, temperature was 0.423 °C, and salinity data was 0.191 psu. The range of thermal water waste can reach 2 kilometers from its source during the receding phase of the full moon with a temperature rise of 1,5°C from inital condition. text
