Description
Summary:SME X is one of the SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) engaged in the production of amplang, located in Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan, Indonesia. Despite its relatively large production scale for a home-based business, UKM X faces challenges due to limited machinery, leading to suboptimal productivity and high ergonomic risks in the production process. Consequently, the development of Appropriate Technology (AT) machinery that can assist SME X's production process holds the potential to enhance its productivity. Initially, the production process for making amplang needs to be thoroughly mapped out to understand the sequence of tasks involved. Hierarchical Task Analysis is employed to assess the tasks' hierarchy and relationships within the production process. This step allows for an evaluation of the highest-risk tasks that could benefit from the assistance of machinery. Based on the HTA evaluation, pinpoint the tasks with the highest risks or those that can be improved in terms of productivity. These tasks become the primary focus for the development of AT machinery. Conduct direct observations and interviews with the workers responsible for the identified tasks. This aims to gain a deeper understanding of the workflow, challenges, and user needs. Based on the interviews, identify user needs among the workers for the development of the AT machinery. Utilize the insights gained from the interviews to formulate the technical specifications that the machinery should meet. Using the product specifications as a guide, generate several alternative designs for the AT machinery. Discuss the alternative solutions with experts in fields such as machinery, ergonomics, and production to gain valuable input. Considering expert opinions, select the most suitable alternative solution for further development into a prototipe machinery design. Develop a physical prototipe of the machinery based on the selected design. Test the machinery prototipe in a real production environment, involving the workers from UKM X. Observe how the machinery functions and assess whether it meets the intended goals. Following these steps will enable the creation of a tailored technological solution to address the challenges faced by UKM X, ultimately enhancing productivity, reducing ergonomic risks, and optimizing the amplang production process. This process highlights an inclusive approach involving workers and experts at every stage of development.
