PHOTOLUMINESCENCE STUDY OF NITROGEN VACANCY CENTER IN NANODIAMOND AND DEVELOPMENT OF OPTICALLY DETECTED MAGNETIC RESONANCE SENSING SYSTEM

Quantum sensing has attracted interest of many because of its high sensitivity to exter- nal perturbation in the form of physical properties of interest. Nitrogen vacancy center is a solid-state spin defect in diamond which has been intensively studied due to its magneto-optic property, of which...

INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/77991 Quantum sensing has attracted interest of many because of its high sensitivity to exter- nal perturbation in the form of physical properties of interest. Nitrogen vacancy center is a solid-state spin defect in diamond which has been intensively studied due to its magneto-optic property, of which its photoluminescence emitted by the sample can be modulated using external magnetic field. In this research, photoluminescence property of nitrogen vacancy center and the effect of external treatment were studied. It has been shown that the application of both microwave and magnetic field application affect the intensity of the photoluminescence profile of the sample. The apparatus to observe the optically detected magnetic resonance of nitrogen vacancy center was also built. From the measurement using that apparatus, we got that the photoluminescence signal wasn’t detected. It is hypothesized that the emmited photoluminescence signal is of very small order and disperse to all direction, causing the photodetector unable to detect the sig- nal. Some solutions have been proposed, which include the use of photodetector with better signal-detecting capability, the use of components like condenser lens to gather the light entering the photodetector, and the qualitative detection of intensity drop of photoluminescence emission using the high-resolution CCD camera system text
