Description
Summary:Gomuda (PT Global Muda Berkah) is a small business that engages in the fashion industry sector which offers knitwear products. On one hand, Gomuda starts to become aware of the need for improvement of innovation and management capabilities in product development, so that the company can highlight its competitive factors in the market. On the other hand, Gomuda realizes that every improvement effort in the company should be strictly planned so it won’t be constrained by limited working capital. Moreover, Lean is a management concept that has still yet to be understood enough on the contexts of small businesses and product development, though it is proven to have a relatively high potential for success in improving performance and efficiency from many companies in the manufacturing sector. The assessment of Lean culture maturity in product development in this study utilizes Lean Culture Capability Maturity Framework through maturity assessment model development and application cycle. The assessment on Lean culture in product development is conducted through semi-structured interview procedures and utilizes five Lean dimensions that are further derived into 15 Lean capabilities. Afterwards, Pareto analysis and scatter plot with SWOT classification approaches are applied to determine improvement priority levels of each Lean capability. Every improvement plan of selected Lean capabilities can be proposed through the actions detailed in the project charter based on the results of a gap analysis and an action plan. Based on the results of the maturity assessment, Gomuda can only achieve maturity at level 1 with the average weight of 1.833, thus indicating that the application of Lean culture in product development is not mature enough. Furthermore, seven improvement projects can be proposed to improve Lean capabilities’ maturity. Most of these projects focus on improving the company’s product development process capabilities in several aspects, such as trust, respect, and responsibility, fact-based decision-making, and creativity and entrepreneurship.
