Summary: | The agriculture sector, which includes fisheries and livestock, has made a substantial economic
contribution to the country and the region. Jambi Province, which provided 32.60% of the
GRDP, is one of the provinces where the agricultural industry predominates. As one of the
regional work units of the Sungai Penuh City, Jambi Province, government, the Livestock and
Fisheries Service (LFS) of Sungai Penuh City exercises regional responsibility in the areas of
fisheries and livestock.
LFS aimed for an annual increase of more than 10 tons in livestock and fisheries production.
To realize this goal, the implementation of knowledge management was deemed crucial to
enhance organizational capacity in formulating policies and regulations within the livestock
and fisheries sectors. Additionally, knowledge management played a pivotal role in identifying
the knowledge and skills of employees, facilitating the exchange of information and experience
across different fields, also monitoring and evaluating activities by providing easy access to
information related to performance and previous results. It also supported technology
integration by establishing a platform for sharing information, best practices, and experiences
regarding technology applications in the livestock and fisheries sectors. Furthermore, the
implementation of knowledge management addressed the challenge of valuable knowledge and
experience loss due to employee transfers or retirement within LFS.
This research employed a mixed-method approach, utilizing both quantitative and qualitative
methods to assess the knowledge management practices of LFS. The APO KM Assessment
Tool was used to determine the organization's KM maturity, which was found to be at the
"Refinement" level with a cumulative score of 170.26. Identified areas for improvement
included Technology, People, and KM Processes within the LFS. Furthermore, the research
suggested that, as part of LFS's knowledge management strategy, the establishment of a formal
KM policy, a well-defined governance structure, and the implementation of a professional KM
function were considered essential steps. These measures were expected to enhance LFS's
overall effectiveness and resilience in knowledge management.
