Description
Summary:PT X is a family business engaged in the distribution of non-alcoholic beverages in the West Sumatera region. PT X has been established since 1988 with inherited standards and work methods. However, due to the factors contributing to the decline of the family business, PT X is facing the threat of collapse due to the absence of long-term planning and intergenerational inheritance processes. Therefore, a study was conducted to identify the root causes of the issues facing PT X and formulate improvement proposals to ensure the company’s continued growth and protection against the threat of collapse. The research was conducted using an organizational development framework. Firstly, the entering and contracting phase revealed that PT X faces the threat of collapse based on the factors contributing to the decline of family businesses. Subsequently, the diagnosing phase was conducted using the FAMBUS model, which consists of six characteristics: vision & strategy, administration, motives, succession, participation in networks, and conflicts. The diagnosis process involved semi-structured interviews to assess the level of maturity of PT X as a family business, and the results were validated through field observations and validation interviews with the CEO of PT X. Next, improvement components based on the analysis of the gap between the ideal conditions and the actual conditions. Based on the results of the diagnosis process, the level of maturity of PT X as a family business was found to be at level 2 (repeatable), which is the ideal condition for each characteristic. The selected improvement priority is the development of executive capabilities. Subsequently, an intervention design was conducted to address the identified needs, namely, a training program in organizational design.
