Description
Summary:Abstract:

Gas transmission pipeline network from a well to consumers is usually very long because the distance between them is quite far. This fact creates many problems, especially the gas flow behavior in the pipeline. During that follow period, it is often assumed that the gas flow in the pipeline is under steady-state conditions. In reality, it is transient flow. the condition is changed with respect to time. A transient flow can be interpreted as a changing condition of flow rate in a system which occurs between the initial steady-state and the final steady-state changes with respect to time, until the final steady-state condition becomes a new steady-state condition. Thus, a more accurate illustration of gas flow behavior in the pipeline can be obtained using transient flow model. This research was focused on the analysis of gas flow transient behavior in the pipeline, which studied the behaviors of pressure, gas flow rate, density, velocity, deviation gas factor, and gas volume along pipeline at each time under line packing conditions.

Line packing is a storing gas process in pipeline by compressing it up to certain pressure which does not exceed the maximum allowable pipe internal pressure. This is possible due to the compressibility of gas. Thus, the pipeline can also be used as gas storage. Hence, if the gas flow rate at the pipes inlet larger than at the outlet (consumer), it means that gas storage in the pipeline has been increased. Therefore, if the pipeline has to be shut down or if there is an increasing gas demand from the consumer, the supply will be guaranteed by using gas store of line packing technique. The filling process is bounded by a Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP) of the pipeline.
