Description
Summary:Supplying Cavendish Banana on an industrial scale is still a critical postharvest problem. Its a climacteric fruit that will ripen moderately enhanced in just three days during ripening. Chitosan-based coating was introduced for a postharvest application solution because chitosan is non-toxic, easily degraded, and biocompatible. Previous Banana Group-ITB research introduced the difference between stored in an open space (control) and inside FSC from bamboo material equipped with manganese-decorated TiO2. In this study, used a green matured banana 9-week-old that was exposed to ethylene. The experimental Cavendish bananas were randomly grouped into four storage groups, including Fruit Storage Chamber (FSC), inside FSC equipped with blue nano-TiO2-x (FSC+Blue TiO2-x), inside FSC equipped with manganese decorated TiO2 (FSC+TiO2 Mn), and open space. All stored banana fruit are coated with 1.25% chitosan solution. Observations were made on days 0, 1, 3, 5, and 7 of storage, and then physical and physiological changes were analysed. The results of the physiological and physical analysis carried out showed that ethylene production, respiration rate, total dissolved solids, browning index, color change, and starch content in samples stored in FSC equipped with blue nano-TiO2-x and FSC equipped with nano-TiO2-Mn increased at the seventh day of storage. The results of relative gene expression analysis related to the ethylene biosynthesis pathway (MaACS1 and MaACO1) show that bananas coated with 1.25% chitosan stored in FSC equipped with manganese-decorated TiO2 and blue nano-TiO2-x can significantly (p-value ? 0.05) have relative gene expression values lower compared to banana fruit stored outside the FSC.
