INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/81526
The data center is one of the facilities that consumes a lot of energy. The cooling system is the second component that consumes the most energy after computer devices and servers. In fact, this portion of the cooling system has a proportion of energy consumption that is almost half of the total facilities in the data center room. Therefore, it is necessary to study the efficiency of using cooling systems in data centers to reduce excess electricity consumption. In this research, an analysis of the thermal management conditions in the data center of the Labtek VI was conducted, followed by a study of potential improvement efforts. The analysis process was assisted by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to observe heat distribution and airflow direction. To help evaluate air conditions, the rack cooling index (RCI) and return temperature indeks (RTI) metric were used, with reference to ASHRAE standards. Based on the available data, the data center at Labtek VI building demonstrated an ideal RCI result of 100% and RTI result of 72.21%. Improvement included sealing existing gaps and modifying wall curvature to utilize air pressure to allow more cold air to enter the racks. The improvement results showed an increase in the air flow rate into the racks and a decrease in air temperature at some outlets by approximately 1°C. Further assessment can be found through the RCI 100% and RTI 100,12% metrics
text
