Description
Summary:Maintaining efficient and reliable production processes is crucial in the everchanging tobacco industry. This research focuses on understanding the impact of unplanned and planned downtimes on Process Reliability (PR) performance, identifying the root causes of low PR, and proposing strategies to improve it. The study acknowledges the significant challenges faced by the company, mainly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We understand that this has led to decreased demand, supply chain disruptions, and changes in consumer behavior. A mixedmethod approach combines quantitative data from seven production lines over the first quarter of 2024 with qualitative insights from interviews with key personnel. A root cause analysis using the Current Reality Tree (CRT) method reveals that focusing maintenance strategies only on critical parts and introducing new materials without thorough testing are significant factors contributing to low PR. The Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) evaluates and prioritizes six alternative solutions based on implementation cost, feasibility, and implementation time. Key recommendations include developing a comprehensive maintenance plan that covers all machine parts and thoroughly testing and validating new materials before full-scale implementation. With these strategies in place, we can look forward to enhanced PR performance, reduced downtimes, and improved operational efficiency. The recommendations inspire confidence in our ability to overcome the current challenges.
