Description
Summary:Bacterial respiration has been measured by Ueing Morgan toxicometer as a continuous culture system and Warburg respirometer. The oxygen consumption of Pseudomonas fluorescens,, measured with Warburg respirometer, decreased when treated with both pesticide and its residues, while Escherichia coli showed decreased oxygen consumption at the highest concentration treated, but respiration increased again when the concentration of the pesticides decreased. In the continuous culture system, E. fluorescens showed the same result and did not show any recovery. E. coil was first inhibited but recovered after a certain period. The results obtained from these two methods indicate that the presence of pesticides in the environment can be detected by meausuring those bacterial respiration and also these two methods can be used for monitoring pesticides residues in the environments .
