ENHANCING WELL PRODUCTION IN MATURE FIELDS THROUGH MATRIX ACIDIZING METHODS
Indonesia has set a target of 1 million BOPD oil production by 2030. In 2022, mature fields in Indonesia contributed 20,000 BOEPD (IPA, 2023), a significant portion of national oil and gas production. The acid design used in matrix acidizing includes a 15% HCl preflush with volumes of 488.74 gal/ft for TM-23 and 474.25 gal/ft for TM-24, a main acid of 12% HCl : 3% HF with volumes of 104.79 gal/ft for TM-23 and 174.39 gal/ft for TM-24, and a postflush to prevent precipitation. The use of corrosion inhibitors, clay stabilizers, and other additives was also considered to enhance stimulation effectiveness. Well performance evaluation before and after matrix acidizing was conducted using the Inflow Performance Relationship (IPR) method and skin factor calculations. The results show that the matrix acidizing method is effective in improving mature well productivity, with skin reductions of -2.25 for TM-23 and -1.39 for TM-24, and productivity index increases of 34.3% and 18.8% for wells TM-23 and TM-24, respectively. This study provides practical guidance for more effective application of matrix acidizing in mature oil fields in Indonesia, as well as recommendations for further research to maximize oil and gas production potential. text |

Indonesia has set a target of 1 million BOPD oil production by 2030. In 2022, mature fields in Indonesia
contributed 20,000 BOEPD (IPA, 2023), a significant portion of national oil and gas production. Therefore,
optimizing production from mature fields through stimulation is a strategic approach. One effective method is
well stimulation using matrix acidizing.
This study aims to identify potential mature wells for optimization using matrix acidizing, design appropriate acid
compositions, analyze skin changes, and calculate production increases after injection. Using the Heterogeneity
Index method, decline curve analysis, and Estimated Ultimated Recovery calculations, wells with the best
potential for stimulation were identified.
The acid design used in matrix acidizing includes a 15% HCl preflush with volumes of 488.74 gal/ft for TM-23
and 474.25 gal/ft for TM-24, a main acid of 12% HCl : 3% HF with volumes of 104.79 gal/ft for TM-23 and
174.39 gal/ft for TM-24, and a postflush to prevent precipitation. The use of corrosion inhibitors, clay stabilizers,
and other additives was also considered to enhance stimulation effectiveness. Well performance evaluation before
and after matrix acidizing was conducted using the Inflow Performance Relationship (IPR) method and skin factor
calculations.
The results show that the matrix acidizing method is effective in improving mature well productivity, with skin
reductions of -2.25 for TM-23 and -1.39 for TM-24, and productivity index increases of 34.3% and 18.8% for
wells TM-23 and TM-24, respectively. This study provides practical guidance for more effective application of
matrix acidizing in mature oil fields in Indonesia, as well as recommendations for further research to maximize
oil and gas production potential. |
