Crude fiber is composed of the main components, namely hemicellulose, cellulose, and lignin. Fiber is one of the most important proximate content in assessing the quality of vegetable products. This research aims to quantify and create a mathematical model of the crude fiber, hemicellulose, cellulose and lignin content in lettuce plants cultivated with the addition of vermicompost. In this research, vermicompost derived from from guinea pig (Cavia porcellus) waste and household waste was used to provide nutrients for plants. The quantification results showed that at 35 DAP, crude fiber content (0.45 g/g DW) and cellulose composition (26.19% or 2.94 g/g DW) were the highest, whereas hemicellulose composition (13.16% or 1.47 g/g DW) and lignin composition (9.39% or 1.06 g/g DW) were low. Based on the results of mathematical modeling, it was found that the crude fiber content and cellulose composition had a similar patterns of accumulation as described by the Gompertz model. Both describe a pattern of fiber development involving three main stages, namely the initiation stage (0 – 25 DAP), the elongation stage (25 – 30 DAP), and the specialization stage (30 – 42 DAP). The composition of hemicellulose and lignin described by the Logistic model has a pattern that continues to increase and has not yet reached a stagnant phase, due to the ongoing process of cell wall elongation and thickening. With these mathematical model, it can be estimated that 35 DAP is the most appropriate harvest time for lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) because it has the best crude fiber and cellulose content text |
