Description
Summary:This thesis discusses the application of tubular structural design with waffle slab and ground improvement for an office building in Indonesia’s earthquake-prone reclaimed area. The design is based on structural concepts introduced by the renowned engineer, Fazlur Khan, who implemented the system into Brunswick Building in Illinois, Chicago. Considering the differences between the referenced building location and the thesis hypothetical building location, geotechnical adjustments are necesarry to adress potential liquefaction and stronger earthquakes. These adjustments include the need for ground improvement using vacuum preloading, application of PVD, and dynamic compaction method. In addition, during the construction phase, it’s required to add retaining walls, steel strutting, and king posts. Meanwhile, the upper structure is innovated by combining the Special Moment Resisting Frame System and Special Strucutral Wall System into dual system integrating the usage waffle slab, thereby eliminating the need for conventional beam element. The application of these innovations will then be tested for their resistance to seismic building analysis requirements applicable in Indonesia.
