Summary:ABSTRACT: <br /> <br /> <br /> Quantitative thin layer chromatographic analysis of nicotine in cigarette smoke and various organs of male mice after inhalation of cigarette smoke has been carried out. Nicotine in cigarette smoke, lung, kidney and liver was extracted with chloroform from ammoniacal medium and determined by thin layer chromatography. The nicotine content in smoke of cigarette A,B,C,D,E,F,G,H,I was 0.23 plus minus 0.01, 0.26 plus minus 0.01, 0.25 plus minus 0.01, 0.25 plus minus 0.01, 0.25 plus minus 0.01, 0.18 plus minus 0.02, 1.12 plus minus 0.04, 1.37 plus minus 0.05, 1.42 plus minus 0.06 mg/g tobacco and in lung, kidney and liver 20.79 plus minus 1.52, 0.98 plus minus 0.05 and 3.53 plus minus 0.26 pg/g organ respectively.
