IMMERSIVENESS AND EMOTION OF FEAR OF READING KEMALA WEBTOON HORROR COMICS USING BACKGROUND MUSIC

Webtoon also known as digital comics are now global. Technological innovations in webtoon, such as the availability of background music, change the reading experience that deserves further research. The trend of using background music is increasing, one of the comic titles that uses this feature is the horror comic Kemala. It is known that background music is an important component of audio-visual media, especially in the horror genre. One of its functions is to help evoke mental reactions and create an atmosphere that matches the narrative. There is no specific research that examines the effect of background music on immersion and emotion of fear of horror webtoon readers. This study, using the horror comic Kemala, conducted a two-group experimental approach: the control group who read the comic without music and the experimental group who read the comic with music, to measure the difference in immersiveness and fear. Using independent sample t-test and mann-whitney u test in SPSS, it was found that there were significant differences. Reading the horror comic Kemala with music provides a different reading experience: more immersive and scarier.
