In the dynamic pet industry, business like Pet&Co depend heavily on the competencies of their leaders to drive business success. This thesis investigates how leadership competencies impact business performance, focusing on Pet&Co, an early-stage company in the pet health industry. Pet&Co has faced stagnation in performance, prompting an analysis of leadership competencies to identify areas for improvement. Preliminary interviews with the Pet&Co team revealed concerns about the CEO's leadership, including a lack of clear guidance, company direction, and insufficient task monitoring. These issues suggest gaps in leadership competencies, directly affecting the company's strategic goals and performance. The research focuses on three core leadership competencies: intrapersonal, interpersonal, and cognitive. Intrapersonal competencies, such as self-awareness, self-management, and self-motivation, are essential for personal growth and effective leadership. Interpersonal competencies, including communication, empathy, teamwork, and influence, foster collaboration and motivation. Cognitive competencies, like strategic thinking, decision-making, innovation, and problem-solving, are crucial for navigating complex situations and driving business success. Using qualitative methods, including in-depth interviews and observations, the study provides a detailed analysis of how these competencies affect business performance at Pet&Co. The case study approach offers insights into the specific dynamics of the company. Findings indicate that intrapersonal competencies like self-awareness and self-management are critical for aligning actions with goals and maintaining productivity. However, the CEO's low self-motivation negatively impacts performance. Interpersonal competencies such as effective communication and empathy create a supportive work environment, enhancing team morale and productivity. Cognitive competencies, particularly strategic thinking and decision-making, are vital for long-term planning, though gaps in strategic vision and innovation are noted. The study concludes that enhancing leadership competencies in strategic thinking and motivation is critical for Pet&Co's success. By aligning leadership development with organizational goals, Pet&Co can foster innovation, drive growth, and ensure long-term success in the competitive pet care industry. The research underscores the importance of a balanced approach to developing intrapersonal, interpersonal, and cognitive competencies to enhance overall business performance. text |
