Description
Summary:Abstract:

Aqueous extracts of the leaves of Jatropha Curcas L(Euphorbiaceae) in graded doses have been investigated in anaesthesized male adult rats of the strain Wistar.

Intravenous administration was found to induce a prompt fall in arterial blood pressure of short duration, in a dose related fashion an interfal of 5 - 10 minutes was maintained betwen two successive extract administration. This hipotensive effect was not modified by atropini or propanolol pretreatment. At the dose of 100 mg/kg body weight, Jatropha extract reduced the respon of adrenalin, noradrenalin and tyramin in doses of respectively 2, 2, 200 mcg/kg body weight (0C adrenergik reseptor inhibition).

Interaction with yohimbin (0L-adrenolytic) reveales that the extract prolonged the duration of its effect, suggesting that the hypotensive effect of Jatropha curcas L is likely to be mediated via oC adrenolytic mechanism.
