Description
Summary:Brass is acopper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) alloy(8) Various copper and zinc alloy from brass, sometimes it is alloyed with other elements, for example admiralty metal and naval brass.(5) In this experiment, the corrosion rate was deter-mined by two methods, i.e weight loss and Tafel extrapolation methods. These methods showed no differences, so that the Tafel extrapolation method can be used for monitoring rate of corrosion within a short time. It has been found that the corrosion rate in medium pH 4 were as follows, brass rolled brass > quenched brass > annealed brass. Further on, the corrosion rate as a function of pH were as follows, medium pH 4> medium pH 7> medium pH 10 medium pH 12. Optical metallography has been used for evaluation the corrosion product and the greatest corrosion was found for. brass a medium of pH 4.
