Summary: | Organizational commitment is crucial for the continuity of a startup, especially those founded by students during their academic years. This study examines the state of organizational commitment at Mengasihi after nearly three years since its inception and aims to understand the decisions made by Mengasihi team members post-graduation. Mengasihi is a startup focused on mother and child healthcare to achieve Indonesia's golden generation. The research employs a qualitative method through in-depth interviews and Focus Group Discussions (FGD). The in-depth interviews used semi-structured questions to understand the members' perspectives on Mengasihi's organizational commitment, while the FGD was used to confirm the interview results and discuss Mengasihi's continuity decisions. The findings show that Mengasihi's organizational commitment can be divided into two periods: the present and the past. In the recent period, Mengasihi has shown significant development compared to previous years. Based on Meyer and Allen's (1991) organizational commitment components, Mengasihi's affective commitment is very high, indicating strong relational bonds. Normative commitment ranks second, followed by continuous commitment. The interview results and FGD consensus revealed that driven by positive affective and normative commitment, members chose to continue with Mengasihi under certain conditions. They were given opportunities to learn and start careers in more professional fields, but Mengasihi needs to offer incentives or compensation to enhance the low continuous commitment. The main challenges following this decision include transition strategies to maintain motivation and manage workloads after graduation. These findings emphasize the importance of organizational commitment for the long-term continuity of Mengasihi in creating a healthy and profitable startup. |
