Description
Summary:One of the most common occurred challenges on highway construction projects is the structural embankment that lies above soft soil surface, causing the problems such as long-term settlement, unstable embankment slope, and low subgrade bearing capacity. Proper and suitable soil improvement technique shall be chosen to overcome those problems. This thesis presents the results of consolidation settlement study on the Indrapura-Kisaran Toll Road Construction Project based on analytical method, numerical method, and site observation results. The amount and duration of settlement was estimated analytically by using 1-D Terzaghi formula, and numerically by using Finite Element Method, to be compared with actual settlement by data using Asaoka method. The consolidation analysis was conducted by comparing settlement rate without Prefabricated Vertical Drain (PVD) and with PVD usage. The result shows that the analytical method produce highest settlement amount, whereas Asaoka method produce the lowest. The study sums up that it needs 2-5 days to reach 90% consolidation degree by using PVD, much faster than without PVD which needs up to 47 days.
