Summary: | Information overload in the digital era has resulted in an uncontrollable and tiring flow of
information. A lot of information content at one time means that the quality of the information is
not as important as the attention span it gets. Presenting interesting information comes at the
expense of the acceptable quality of the information and the author's time that has been wasted.
Simple information packaged in that is attractive to the attention span makes descriptive and
academic information become banal and concentration on daily activities decreases. Using digital
drawing art, the author wants to create a new understanding of the commodification of attention
spans by creating an aesthetic experience that triggers and distracts the attention of the audience
of the work. Data traces as information seek to use familiar digital visual data reconfigured as
everyday noise on the internet. This work is rooted in expressive art theory, conceptual art, and
studies of information overload theory and attention span. By referring to artists such as Alexander
Reben, Barbara Kruger, and Little Thunder, the digital drawing series "Binary Crash" creates an
immersive experience of the writer's daily life during the information overload on the internet. The
combination of boring text visuals combined with noisy digital visuals creates a juxtaposition that
makes it difficult for the audience to understand the text provided. The “Binary Crash” series
seeks to create awareness of the emerging attention span crisis by creating experiences of
information overload on a small scale. This awareness contributes to the visual arts and the
audience of internet users, opening up a more critical space for internet use and an understanding
of how visuals can be played to attract attention. |
