DEVELOPING MULTISENSORY LEARNING TOOLS FOR CHILDREN WITH DYSCALCULIA TO UNDERSTAND TIME AND DURATION

Dyscalculia is a specific learning disorder (SpLD) that affects a child's ability to understand mathematical concepts, such as performing calculations, recognizing numbers, and solving problems. One of the main challenges for children with dyscalculia is difficulty understanding the concept of time, including calculating minutes and hours, as well as recognizing time patterns, especially on analog clocks. This difficulty in understanding time can impact a child's ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and create daily schedules. The use of digital clocks, which are often relied upon as a temporary solution, does not provide a deep understanding of time, leading to anxiety and difficulties when children need to manage time independently. As a result, they may struggle to lead an organized and productive life, which can lower their self-confidence and negatively affect their social and professional relationships later in life. This study aims to develop a teaching method focused on mastering concepts of time through a multisensory learning approach. It is hoped that this approach will help children with dyscalculia better understand time, improve their self-confidence, and better prepare them for future challenges text |
