Reserves calculation can be done by method of vertical sections, which use geotechnical parameter as one of geometry pit boundaries. The calculation is done in each section and there are a lot of sections. This procedure may be done again if there is a change in deposit geometry compared to mine planning and mine design. <br />

By expressing coal exploration data in conceptual and mathematical model will reduce difficulties in coal reserves calculation. Finite Element Method (FEM) can be a solution. This method applies the principles of calculus in geometry of coal deposit. The principal of FEM is discretisation, i.e. dividing the solution domain to smaller size elements to make an easy management. We can put other parameters in these elements, such as quality of coal, specific gravity, and coal thickness. <br />

In this research, pit limit as geometry boundary of reserves calculation can be changed by making mathematical model. So, FEM will be more flexible and efficient. <br />
