Description
Summary:Abstract:

Comparative effectiveness of two contraceptive drugs of plant origin have been investigated by a method which could detect any anti implantation or early abortifacient activity.

Upon oral treatment to female rats at days 1 to 7 before and 1 to 10 of pregnancy. Jamu A and Jamu B at the dose of 325 mg/kg body weight produced 80percent and 60percent anti implantation activity respectively within group.

At the term of pregnancy, the litters delivered failed to show gross abnormalities at all dose levels ( 325, 650 and 1300 mg/kg body weight ) .

The in vitro study demonstrated that only Arecae Semen has been found to produce contraction of the isolated non gravid rat uterus.
