Summary: | The purpose of this study was to examine,at laboratory scale, the possibility of cutting back a modified asbuton bitumen to provide a suitable binder for use in a sand sheet surfacing. Bunker Fuel Oil (BFO) was used as the modifier and gasoline as the cutter. The sand for the sand sheet mixture met the requirements for a Bina Marga Type I Specification. The Marshall procedure was used to determine the stability and flow characteristics of the sand sheet mixes, the influence of curing time was also investigated. It was found that acceptable mixes for use as sand sheet could be prepared using a cut back modified asbuton bitumen. Comments on the likely skid properties have been made, as well as pointers towards good field application. |
