Description
Summary:Protective effect of isoflavonoid on endothelial celi were studied in cholesterol-fed rabbits. The cholesterol-rich diet markedly increased Malondialdehyde (MDA) in the plasma as reflected by Thiobarbituric Acid-Reactive Substances (TBARS), decreased cGMP and decreased endothelium-dependent vascular relaxations to acetylcholine compared to vessels from normal rabbits. In cholesterol-fed rabbits, Isoflavonoid treatment decreased MDA in plasma production, increased cGMP and increased endothelium-dependent relaxations to acetylcholine. These results suggest that dietary treatment of rabbits with isoflavonoid may prevent superoxide anion (0.2) induced inactivation of endothelium-dependent relaxing factor (EDRF), improve the endothelium-dependent relaxation to acetylcholine in the aortic blood vessels and increase cyclic GMP content in aortic cholesterol-fed rabbits.
