Disabled women tend to oppressed by two things; they oppressed because as women they have to achieving their life goals and as disabled they have to struggle to adjust life with their physical disability. Disabled women can be the victim of bullying and they tend to receives oppression twice more than non-disabled women. The oppression is not only categorized as physical bullying, but it can also about mental bullying. The struggle of Elisa to fight against double oppression that lead her to find out a true love is the main issue of a novel entitled The Shape of Water by Guillermo Del Toro and Daniel Kraus. This study discusses how the formal elements of the text such as plot, characterization, symbolism, and setting work together to support the theme of the text. This study uses New Criticism to examine the issue and the method used is qualitative descriptive method. This study finds out that Elisa’s struggle to fight against double oppression lead her to be empowered woman which portrayed in the formal elements as an organic unity.
