Summary: | This research is made due to the curiosity of researchers to find out about
cosumerism issues affecting urban life in the central Jakarta especially in the
District Senen, therefore this study aimed to (1) identify the decline in cultural
values that affect the lives of urban consumers (2) The types of factors that affect
the livelihoods of communities of the Senen district, and lastly (3) to find the
influence of consumerism in socio- economic life of the Senen community .
Method of this research is qualitative one . It is a process of research and
understanding based on a method that examine social phenomena and problems
cause by human. This researche is made thoroughly by examining the results of
the report made officially by the regional government in central Jakarta , espesialy
in Senen District, view from of respondents, information and fact that gathered
directed through personal interviews and personal documentations.
From this study ,it was found that television greatly affects and influences
the daily habits of consumerism. Television is this case becomes a dominant
factor in the lives of people in district Senen as these people from the community
spent a lot of time watching television . The population are expected to increase
rapidly , hoever do to difficulties in finding decent job , a rice in unployment ,
thus as impact , rate of theft and reducing the comfort for overall daily activities . .
It was found that the use of radio and the internet has no significant effect at
all . Most of the people watch the television as the people feel more practical and
economical. Researh results of modern shooping centres and the traditional
market also so show that there is no significant effects in the daily habits of
consumerism. |
