Summary:In this study the accuracy of problem identification by superior is a very important thing to achieve. The goal is to avoid mistakes in the search for solutions. If the problem is not identified properly, they can lead to errors in problem solving. Inaccuracies in the identification of these problems can cause inaccuracies in the performance appraisal process. Further inaccuracies in the performance appraisal process can lead to inaccuracies in the delivery of rewards and punishments that can cause job dissatisfaction. This study aimed to examine the effect of the coaching and counceling training which consists of two main variables, namely Performance Analysis System (PAS) and behavior preference based on Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). This study was conducted with experimental methods. Experiment design used is post test only design with nonequivalent groups. The research was conducted in PTPN V Pekanbaru and its units. Subjects were 32 managers who were given treatment as the experimental group were assessed by 116 direct subordinates and 32 superiors were not given the treatment as the control group were also assessed by 116 direct subordinates. The treatments given as a three days coaching and counseling training contains the lecturing, roleplay, questionnaire, and manipulation check. Data were analyzed with analysis of regression and analysis of covariance. The manipulation check results showed that the coaching and counseling training proved to increase the understanding of Performance Analysis System (PAS) for problem identification and behavior preferences based on Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (p=0.000
