Summary: | This dissertation is a descriptive study about metaphor in Pingitan discourse
on Mawasangka�s society, Buton regency of South East Sulawesi. This study was
conducted by using anthropologic linguistics approach, which studyies language of
metaphor in cultural social context. The final aims of this study are to know the
knowledge system and way of thinking of Mawasangka�s society, Buton regency of
South East Sulawesi as reflected in their language, particularly language on metaphor
in Pingitan discourse used.
This dissertation, implemented some ways to reach the aims, namely, (1) to
inveterate metaphors in Pingitan discourse on Mawasangka�s society based on
general social activities suitable to the context of using it, (2) to classify metaphors in
Pingitan discourse on Mawasangka�s society based on metaphor types related to
metaphor semantic field types and its comparison that can be found the types of flora
metaphor, human metaphor, energetic metaphor, fauna metaphor, terrestrial
metaphor, object metaphor, being metaphor, and substance metaphor, (3) to analyze
lingual units found in metaphors of Pingitan discourse on Mawasangka�s society. The
lingual units in Pingitan discourse metaphor involve morphological aspects, such as
verbs, nouns, adjectives, morphological aspects of such as, reduplication, compound
word in word main form, preposition of di, while in syntactical aspect found nominal
phrase, verbal phrase, numeral phrase, adverbial phrase, and prepositional phrase, and
in clause aspect can be found the nominal, verbal, numeral, and prepositional clauses,
and in sentence types found informative and imperative sentences. The imperative
sentence consists of three sentence types, namely true imperative sentence, invitation
imperative sentence, and forbidden imperative sentence, while the metaphor types in
syntactical aspects found nominative, complement, predicative, and sentence
metaphors, (4) to analyze metaphor functions in Pingitan discourse on Mawasangka�s
society and found that (1) metaphor in Pingitan discourse aims at leading or giving
suggestion, (2) metaphor in Pingitan discourse aims at advising, (3) metaphor in
Pingitan discourse aims at asking, (4) metaphor in Pingitan discourse aims at teasing
or softening the words, and (5) metaphor in Pingitan discourse aims at giving
information and drawing the situation, (5) to analyze why in the discourse of pingitan
among the society of Mawasangka is used metaphor. It is found that those metaphor
describe about the characteristics of the pingitan girls, characteristics of the men, and
the characteristics of the leader of pingitan rites the metaphor of pingitan discourses
among the Mawasangka society, (6) to analyze the knowledge system, and the way of
thinking reflected in metaphor of Pingitan discourse on Mawasangka society and can
be found, (1) knowledge system of highest object (mpuu), (2) knowledge system of
flora, (3) knowledge system of fauna, (4) knowledge system of human, (5)
knowledge system of right and wrong, and (6) knowledge system of respectful.
In addition, the way of thinking reflected in Pingitan discourse metaphor on
Mawasangka�s society can be found, (1) Mawasangka�s society has society relation
patterns with highest object (mpuu), Mawasangka�s society with other human,
Mawasangka�s society with the ghost, Mawasangka�s society with fauna,
Mawasangka�s society with flora, Mawasangka�s society with the goods,
Mawasangka�s society with environmental symptoms, and (2) Mawasangka�s society
has society classifications, in which Mawasangka�s society is always connected to
highest object (God), environment, and ancestors. Therefore, metaphor in Pingitan
discourse on Mawasangka�s society, Buton regency of South East Sulawesi
constitutes a ceremony that must be received and implemented as orientation, as it is
received by its society to do relationship with the highest object, ancestors, and
surrounding environment in order to create the harmony with its world. It shows that
the tradition which is inherited by the ancestors is very strong, so all views related to
its world are still traditional. |
