Summary: | Dog was one of pet animals potentially get injuries. Binahong (Anredera
cordifolia (Ten) Steenis) was one herb widely used as for curing wounds. The
purpose of this research was to study the effect of the binahong leaf extract
ointment ethanol fraction concentration of 5% and 10% toward wound healing in
dogs skin physically.
Four local female healthy dogs were used in this research. Dogs adapted for
one week and given ivermectine as anthelmintic. Each dog treated with making of
6 cm long incision vertical direction by 3 incisions each dog. Three incisions were
coded by A, B and C. The incision on group A as a control (not treated) had no
medicinal treatment. The incision on group B were treated by giving ointment of
binahong leaves extract ethanol fraction 5% and the incision on group on C were
treated by giving ointment of binahong leaves extract ethanol fraction 10%.
Observation of wound healing was done visually with parameters of wound
swelling, redness of the wound, the wetness and the links between the two wound
edges.
The observations visually showed that there were little difference between
group A (control), with group B (treated by giving ointment of binahong leaves
extract ethanol fraction 5%) experienced a decrease swelling wound until day 3,
while group C (treated by giving ointment of binahong leaves extract ethanol
fraction 10%) decreased the intensity of swelling until day 2. The redness of the
wound on A and B group did not show any longer on day 5 and on C group was
not show anymore on day 4. Whereas the wetness and linked of two wound edges
on A, B and C group were showing the same results achieved primary wound
healing on day sixth.
Based on the results and discussion, it could be concluded that the
administration of binahong leaves extract ethanol fraction 10% ointment giving a
positive effect on the acceleration of wound healing. The 10% ointment giving
effect wound healing better than the 5% concentration and control physically. It
was advisable for using binahong leaves extract ethanol fraction 10% ointment for
treating wound on animal. |
