Japan as a nation is a complex society full of contradictions and Japanese often finds it hard to accept the conditions and cultures of other nations that are different from theirs. Therefore, it is necessary to first comprehend their traits in order to fulfill and satisfy their needs. This report provides you data regarding Japanese tourists� traits and reveal what become their preferences or favorites (sites, activities, vehicles, etc) during their sojourn in DIY. The writer conducted a quantitative research in the low season period of February-March 2012 involving 50 Japanese tourists as respondents. Low season refers to the times when the number of tourist visit drops to the low levels, causing the diminution revenue to local businesses. Respondents were asked to answer the questions on the questionnaire and express their opinions regarding the DIY tourism. Through the research, it is found that uncertainty avoidance among Japanese tourists when choosing place to sojourn is not very high. In other words, Japanese begin to be able to accept things that are different from their prevalence. Some Japanese tourists chose to sojourn at locals� homes. Nevertheless, in other condition, such us when choosing vehicle for transport, Japanese tourists tend to be selective and chose the ones they are familiar with rather than trying something new or unfamiliar. Traditional cultural dimension, such as need to savor relaxation, as what they do at the hot spring (onsen) still remains.
