Summary:Background: Elderly experiencing various health problems and functional impairment of the body so it can be risky to a decrease in hydration status. Consumption of fluids to increase hydration status is isotonic drinks. Banana Isotonic Drink is a natural isotonic beverage products based �kepok kuning� banana flour. Banana Isotonic Drink improve hydration status in elderly patients. Purpose: to determine the effect of Banana Isotonic Drink plain water for rehydration and see the urine and the effect of the difference between giving and Banana Isotonic Drink plain water for hydration status in elderly people in physically urinalysis. Methods: an experimental clinical trial study using a cross-over design. Research subjects (n = 18) given intervention 3x24 hour drink as much as 1000 ml per 24 hours gradually. Morning urine is used in the examination of the physically urinalysis (color, clarity, pH, and specific gravity). Tests were carried out twice for product intervention and Banana Isotonic Drink Plain Water with a washout period is four days. The data obtained is quantitative data using the chisquare test and the independent sample t-test. Results: Distribution of urine color and clarity had increased during the three days in the treatment of Banana Isotonic Drink indicating good hydration status. However, there was significant difference only in the urine color during the intervention (p<0,05). Urine clarity, pH, and specific gravity showed no significant difference (p>0.05) in the treatment of Banana Isotonic Drink and plain water for three days and the overall average. Conclusion: There is no significant difference in the Banana Isotonic Drink and Plain Water in hydration status of the elderly at the urine pH and specific gravity. This shows the same effect of Banana Isotonic Drink and plain water on the hydration status of the elderly.
