PENGARUH FORMULA LARUTAN PERENDAM DAN SUHU PENYIMPANAN TERHADAP VASE LIFE BEBERAPA BUNGA POTONG

Effects of some selected chemical agents and cold temperature on the vase life of some cut flowers had been studied. The pre treatment solution being used were 20% sugar, 20% sugar plus citric acid until pH 3,5, and citric acid until pH 3,5. The treatment solution being used were 2%, 4%, 6% sugar plus 0,1 % chlorine and citric acid pH 3,5. The combination treatments being used were 2%, 4%, 6% sugar combined with cold temperature (18±2oC). Water was being used as control agent for all treatment. The result showed that all treatments had improved the vase life of Rose, Gladiolus, and Chrysantemum cut flowers compared to its control. The vase life of Tuberose has no difference with its control in holding solution treatments. The vase life of Tagetes cut flower was decreased with the increase in sugar concentration. The cold temperature treatment increased the vase life of all cut flowers. The combination of treatment solution formulation and cold temperature treatments had improved the vase life of all cut flowers. It has been concluded that combination treatments could be used as postharvest treatment to delay flower senescene and prolong the vase life of Rose, Gladiolus, Chrysantemum, Tuberose, and Tagetes.
