Tofan Dwi Hardjanto, M.A ETD This study deals with code-mixing in the two Indonesian novels of two different genres namely teen lit and chick lit entitled DeaLova and Cintapuccino. The objectives of this study are to identify the data (Indonesian sentences containing English codes on phrase level and under, e.g. letters, words, and phrases that found in the two novels above), to classify the data based on the two classification frameworks proposed by Kannaovakun and Gunther, and Ho, and to know whether there is a difference(s) between code-mixing in DeaLova and Cintapuccino. The total of 625 English code-mixings, 113 from DeaLova and the other 512 from Cintapuccino, used as the data of the research. In order to classify the data, the classification frameworks by Kannaovakun and Gunther, and Ho were combined. The combined classification will consist of ten types of code-mixing: truncation, hybridization, conversion, semantic shift, reduplication, word order shift, letters of the alphabet, proper nouns, lexical words, and phrases. The result of the study shows that in DeaLova, the most dominant type of code-mixing is hybridization with 51 data and the lowest is reduplication with zero occurrences. Meanwhile, for Cintapuccino, the type of codemixing with the highest frequency is lexical words with 127 data and the lowest is semantic shift with only one datum. The last conclusion of this study shows that till now English still frequently used in Indonesian popular novels.
